Cultivation Laws California

In terms of state-legality regarding the cultivation of THC containing cannabis, California is one of the most progressive states in the US. California became the first US state to get marijuana legalized for medical purposes 20 years ago. In recent years, voters have approved a measure to make marijuana recreational use legal in the state.

Adults aged 21 and above can legally possess and make use of 28.5 grams of marijuana for recreational purposes. They are also permitted to possess 8 grams of concentrated marijuana.

The law permits adults aged 21 and above to grow up to 6 plants. For qualified patients and their designated caregivers, the state laws for growing cannabis allow the cultivation of 6-12 marijuana plants for medicinal purposes. Smoking is permitted privately, but it is completely prohibited in public places.

Speaking of medical purposes, the consumption of cannabis is legal for any patient with a physician’s written or oral recommendation. People can acquire medical marijuana cards from the California Department of Public Health.
